About Ocean

Ocean is a skin to use with Popfile.

The special trick used in Ocean is that the menu will stay at a fixed position on your screen. It will not scroll off the page.

To achieve this, I make use of the position:fixed CSS property. Unfortunately, there is currently no version of Microsoft's Internet Explorer that will correctly support this. Thus this skin won't do the nice tricks for you in IE that it will do in other browsers. Of course, you could also say that IE won't do the nice tricks for you that other browsers do (if you don't count the security holes).

Ocean has been tested with Mozilla and Opera 7.x. With these browsers, it works as intended. It looks ok in IE, and I guess it will look just horrible in old Netscape 4.

If you are using another browser, such as Safari, please let me know how it works.

Try it

I didn't do any screen shots. But you can simply try Ocean and see how it looks in your browser. I made a copy of a couple of Popfile UI pages that use this skin. Take a look at them here.

Use the "Shutdown Popfile" link to come back here.

Download

Here is the link to a zip file that contains the needed template files and the style sheet: ocean.zip. Search for your POPFile/skins directory on your harddrive. Then unzip ocean.zip into that directory, but make sure that your archiver keeps the folder structure. Restart Popfile and you should be able to choose Ocean as your skin on the Popfile configuration page.

Adnowledgements

Ocean is based on an idea by Joseph Connors. He made a little demonstration of this idea in his Xperiment skin. Joseph also made some very good suggestions and corrections for Ocean. Also check out his Windows skin that should already be on your hard disk since it ships with Popfile (just like his new 'OceanBlue' skin).
